An End to a Great Season

Congratulations to both the boys and girls varsity teams on great performances at the State Meet in Fresno! The boys placed 5th of 23 teams in D2, The girls placed 9th of 23 teams.

We couldn’t be more proud of our 2015 Cross Country Boys Varsity team.  This was the best finish ever from a MCXC boys team in this meet and the first time boys varsity has made the state meet since 2011.  Ty Garrett led the team with a time of 15:44 (26th place), which is a new Mira Costa Woodward Park course record.  Ethan Williams finished 2nd for the team at 15:57 (39th place), also breaking the old course record.  Cole Lewis and Caleb Llorin finished 3rd and 4th for Costa (16:00), matching the old course record.  Cole now holds the sophomore course record and Caleb, the junior course record.  Michael Yaskowitz, Xavier Court, and Scott Healy rounded out this amazing team.  The team also goes on record as the fastest Mira Costa team to compete at the State Meet ever.  When all teams from all 5 divisions are merged (power merge), the boys placed 12th out of 115 teams across California. Congratulations boys!

The girls also had an amazing day!  Led by a strong performance by Melia Chittenden, who finished 11th overall with a time of 18:01, followed by senior Alexis Johnson who finished in 18:33. Melia’s time was the 6th fastest time ever from Mira Costa and the fastest time ever by a junior on the Woodward Park course.  Alexis’ time puts her as the 6th fastest senior and 12th overall. Rounding out the team was Emily Jones (jr), Sierra Andrade (jr), Amanda Han (sr), Gaby Guerrero (jr), and Brooke Inouye (fr). This is a young team with only two girls having run at a State finals meet prior. We are so proud of their effort and place in this very competitive field.  When all teams from all 5 divisions are merged (power merge), Mira Costa girls varsity placed 25th out of 115 teams across California.  What an amazing finish to the 2015 season. Congratulations girls!
